Herd Tennis Gears Up for Three Weekend Matches
Feb. 22, 2007 HUNTINGTON - The Marshall Thundering Herd tennis team will finally return home for three matches beginning Friday at the Huntington Tennis Club. The Herd (6-4) will begin play with Miami (Ohio) (3-5) on Friday at 1 p.m. and then again at 6 p.m. with Eastern Kentucky (3-4). The RedHawks are entering the match having shutout Wright State in its last match, while the Herd owns a 12-2 record over the former Mid-American Conference foe. Eastern Kentucky is also coming off a win in its last match as the Colonels defeated Jacksonville State, 5-2. The Colonels are winless all-time against the Herd with Marshall taking the only four matches. Marshall moved up to No. 57 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association's rankings. In doubles, Kellie Schmitt and Lynzee Kever moved up in the rankings to 27th with a 5-2 overall record. However, Schmitt slipped in the singles rankings to the No. 28 spot with a record of 8-1. Sunday the Herd will be facing No. 74 South Alabama (3-4) for an 11 a.m. start. The Jaguars are coming into the matchup with two straight wins over Mississippi State, 5-2, and Tennessee Tech, 7-0. All-time, the Herd is 1-2 against the Jags.
