Herd Tennis Heads to Louisville to Take on No. 69 Louisville and UCF
March 30, 2006 LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Thundering Herd tennis team hits the court again this weekend as it travels to Louisville, Ky. to take on No. 72 Louisville and UCF. Marshall will battle Louisville at 1 p.m. on Friday and then take on UCF at 1 p.m. Saturday. After jumping 13 spots in the latest ITA Fila Rankings to No. 60, the Thundering Herd tennis team will look to continue its ascent in the poll as it faces the Cardinals and Golden Knights in Louisville. Louisville comes into the weekend with a record of 17-5 on the season. The Herd is 13-6. UCF is 10-6 on the season and will be the first Conference USA opponent for the Herd in Marshall's inaugural season in C-USA. There is no regular season tennis schedule in Conference USA so this will be the only meeting for the Herd against a C-USA school prior to the league tournament in Dallas, April 20-22. The Herd is paced by freshman Kellie Schmitt from the No.2 singles position. Schmitt has a 14-4 singles record on the year. Schmitt and partner Lynzee Kever downed No. 21 ranked Megan Moulton-Levy and Katarina Zoricic of William and Mary last Saturday in No. 1 doubles. Next week, the Herd returns to action at Cincinnati and Miami (Ohio).
