Kroh, Nzudie Earn Academic All-MAC Accolades

5/5/2005

CLEVELAND - The Mid-American Conference announced Wednesday that Marshall University seniors Ashley Kroh (Louisville, Ky.) and Lille Nzudie (Duoala, Cameroon) were named to the Academic All-MAC tennis team.

The seniors from the 4-time MAC Champion Thundering Herd are both graduating as the top graduating students in their respective majors. Kroh is graduating with a 3.8 overall GPA and is the top marketing student in Marshall's Lewis College of Business. Nzudie finishes with a 3.83 and is the top advertising student at Marshall.

"We're really proud of Ashley and Lille," Marshall coach John Mercer said. "They are great examples of student athletes who have shown the ability to balance the rigors of college athletics, but still excel in the classroom."

Kroh was also named first team All-MAC and MAC Player of the Year last week at the conference tournament in Muncie, Ind., for her athletic performance. Nzudie was a second team All-MAC selection.

Kroh was an Academic All-MAC selection in 2003 and both Kroh and Nzudie have earned the MAC Commissioners Award for GPA's over 3.5 for the past three season.

Other members of the team are Heidi Romer of Bowling Green, who earned the honor for the second-consecutive season. Rattiya Hiranrat and Reedhina Parekh of regular season champion Western Michigan were also named to the team. The eight-member team was completed with
the addition of Jessica Thompson of Ball State and Nancy Wiegrand and Linda Jirouskova of Miami.

The honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular
sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered.
