Women's Track Starts Outdoor Season With Strong Showing at Shamrock Invitational

CONWAY, S.C. - Marshall University women's track began its outdoor season by earning several top 10 finishes at the Shamrock Invitational this weekend hosted by Coastal Carolina. Senior Rachel Blankenship, who was coming off a school record setting indoor season, was able to place second in the shot put with a throw of 13.72m. Junior LaTricia Jones earned herself two top five spots with a fifth place finish in the discus (41.84m) and seventh in the shot put (12.46m). The Thundering Herd throwers were not the only student athletes to have success. Freshman Darby Mullen finished fourth in the 3000-meter run (10:30.24) and classmate Hannah Henderson placed ninth in the 3000-meter steeplechase (12:37.37). Other top finishes includes senior Rebecca Minardi placed seventh in the 5000-meter run. Sophomore Andrea Jackson leaped to a fourth place finish in the triple jump and senior Teniqua Sutton finished fourth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump. Senior Britani Keeney rounds out the top ten finishers with a eighth place in the hammer throw. Marshall will be back in action this weekend at the Winthrop Invitational March 28-29.
