Marshall Volleyball Fills Final Piece Of Coaching Puzzle
6/5/2001
Huntington, W.Va. -- Marshall University volleyball coach Steffi Legall announced Monday that Tim Walenga has filled the vacant assistant coaching position with the Thundering Herd.
"I am extremely excited to have Tim on board," said Legall. "He brings a strong knowledge of the game, as both a player and coach."
Walenga, 29, joins the Marshall University staff after a three-year stint as a graduate assistant coach at Minnesota State University. Walenga worked with all facets of the Mavericks program, but concentrated on individual skill specific drills. The South Holland, Illinois, native also spent the past eight summers working numerous volleyball camps throughout the Midwest.
"I am just ecstatic to join this volleyball program and university," said Walenga. "I really look forward to our spring season and hope it all leads to a successful fall campaign."
Walenga also served as an Educational Advisor at RiverBend Academy in Mankato. Walenga provided guidance to students in project based learning curriculum, aided students in developing an individualized learning plan and served as facilitator for 16 high school students for academic progress.
A graduate of Illinois State University, Walenga also possesses quality experience as a player. The outside hitter was a member of the USA V Club Team. From 1996-98, Walenga helped the squad to three consecutive top five finishes at the USA Adult Nationals MenŐs A Division Club Volleyball Championship. The Junior Olympic coach also was a member of both the Minnesota State University and Illinois State University menŐs volleyball club teams.
Walenga fills the void left when former assistant head coach Glenna Bianchin resigned prior to the start of the 2000 season to pursue interests outside of collegiate athletics.
